Do this first
- Keep everyone out of the area. Especially children, pets and anyone with a weakened immune system.
- Stop using water. Don't flush toilets or run sinks, showers or appliances until the line is cleared.
- Avoid touching sewage. If you must, wear waterproof gloves and boots and wash your hands well afterwards.
- Leave the mop in the closet. Household cleaning tools spread contamination to clean areas.
How we clean up sewage
We remove the sewage and contaminated water, take out porous materials it reached, and clean the affected area. HEPA filtration helps keep the air clean while we work. Then we dry the structure and check moisture until it's dry.
Fixing the line, not just the mess
A backup usually means a blocked or damaged sewer line. Our master plumber clears and repairs residential sewer lines, so the cause gets fixed along with the damage.
What has to be thrown out
Carpet, pad, insulation and other porous materials that sewage reaches generally can't be cleaned safely and are removed. Hard surfaces can usually be cleaned.
