Do this first
- Shut off the main water valve. It's usually where the water line enters the house, or near the water heater.
- Drain the lines. Open the lowest faucet in the house to let the water left in the pipes run out.
- Stay clear of electricity. Keep away from water near outlets, cords and appliances.
- Move valuables and take photos. Get belongings off wet floors and photograph the damage.
