Slab Leak Detection & Repair

A slab leak is a broken water line under a concrete floor. Water can spread under flooring and into walls before you see it. We find the leak, repair or reroute the line, and dry out the damage.

Do this first

  1. Check the water meter. With every faucet and appliance off, a moving meter or leak indicator means water is escaping somewhere.
  2. Shut off the main valve if water is coming up. Closing it stops the damage from spreading.
  3. Feel and listen. Warm spots on the floor, the sound of running water and damp flooring are common signs.
  4. Take photos. Pictures of wet flooring and stains help with any insurance claim.

Signs of a slab leak

  • Warm spots on the floor, from a leaking hot-water line
  • Damp or warped flooring, or a musty smell
  • Running water sounds when nothing is on
  • A water bill that jumps with no change in use
  • Low water pressure
  • New cracks in flooring or tile

How a slab leak gets fixed

Once the leak is pinpointed, there are usually three options: open the floor at that spot and repair the pipe, reroute the line through the walls or ceiling, or repipe if the old lines are failing in more than one place. We explain each option and give you an upfront estimate.

The water damage underneath

Water from a slab leak soaks flooring, baseboards and the bottom of walls. Because water damage restoration is the other half of what we do, the same company that repairs the line also extracts the water, dries the structure and repairs the floor.

Water damage handled too

If the problem has already soaked floors, walls or cabinets, the same call covers extraction, drying and repairs.

Questions

Does homeowners insurance cover slab leaks?

Policies vary. Some pay for the resulting water damage and for opening the floor to reach the pipe, but not for the pipe repair itself. Your insurance company decides; we document the damage either way.

Will you have to break up my floor?

Not always. Rerouting the line through the walls or ceiling avoids the slab, and a spot repair keeps the opening small. We'll recommend what fits your house.

Do you charge to come out?

No. There's no dispatch fee. Once we're on site and have seen the problem, we give you an upfront estimate for the work needed.
